"We cannot program that key, trust me I know,"

So yesterday I took my new key to my local Honda dealership, and the parts guy cut it for the price of three cans of Pepsi ($1.50) like he said he would. He thought that $40 for that key was quite a bargain from the Acura dealership. After that, I told him that the service department informed me that they wouldn't be able to program the key. He said "Who did you talk to over there?" I told him and he said, "Wait until the service manager gets back from lunch. He'll know." When he got back the parts guy walked me over to Service and helped me convince them that they were capable of programming it. After some massaging, they at least agreed to try it.

The same service writer that last week told me, "We cannot program that key, trust me I know," hooked the car up to the diagnostics and started working on it. After maybe 5 minutes I heard the engine fire up and figured that was a good sign. He got out of the car, handed me my key and said, "Well, it worked." They didn't charge me. It appears that his previous attempt that failed was with an '05 Acura key. When I was getting in my car I heard him tell the manager "I with that '05 key would have been as easy to program as that one."

So now that all is said and done my new TL key works properly in every keyhole in the vehicle, all of the remote functions work, and the car starts since the immobilizer is programmed. I also double checked and all of my original keys and remotes function flawlessly as well.

Thanks to all of you for posting directions and other helpful information. So now WolfpackBill and I are in the same boat1 guy with 4 keys.
