If they call their cars "Beemers", then they obviously aren't enthusiast enough to look at any forums. As for the forums, this topic is so old it may not even be worthy of a FAQ, but I've seen it covered numerous times.In other words, if they frequented a BMW forum they'd already know that cars are Bimmers and bikes are Beemers.
