I think you must be in the minority of VW owners? When I was researching the Passat and Jetta 1.8T I found tons of stories on engine fires from oil leaking onto the turbo, turbos going bad at under 100K, turbos causing the oil and then the engine to go south at wayyy under 100K, needing to run synthetic Mobil1 PAO oils every 3K, etc etc...this is not my idea of "normal maintenance" and "no problems". The fact that Acura also now uses synthetic oil exclusively, and that it coincides with the introduction of a turbo RDX pretty much tells me all I need to know: turbo = higher maintenance when you can produce the same power from VTEC and/or bigger displacement and still get the same MPG (13-15MPG from a mini ute like the RDX is a joke)
