The trend in Europe and Asia toward making diesels behave more like petrol engines by reducing their compression ratios and adding loads of complex electronics is a seriously backward step. The whole point of a diesel engine is its simplicity, economy, and reliability.. And trying to make them perform like petrol engines is defeating that purpose..
I am still convinced that the reason for keeping Diesel cars out of the USA is financialy based (political lobbyists from the huge car giants and oil companies are buying a lot of votes maybe?) rather than for any eco friendly reasons..
It would help a bit if John Travolta sold his private runabout Boeing 707 and bought a mini!! lol... And Arnie is still running around in his humby! Fuel at $7 a gallon might cure that kind of wastefull behaviour! huh..
What would realy help would be to remove the tax exemptions on Aircraft fuels and make people pay full price if they travel by air!! In the UK I can travel to europe by air (1,000 mls) cheaper than I can travel by train to Liverpool?? (45 mls)
I saw that nature (bad weather) helped itself by forcing the airlines in parts of the USA to cancell 3,5000 flights recently, revenge huh..
