No contradiction. I said they'd check for current & continuity..... THAT'S the diagnostic...that's on the outside at the plugs.... NOT inside the unit itself!
The instructions would NOT be for taking the unit apart.... it would be for taking the unit OUT of the spot it's mounted in... so it has nothing to do with looking inside the unit. With that, you or anyone else would be on their own....since it's not HONDA I can't get instructions for it.
You may not get it replaced for free. Some have, but not many. Most people are aware that when the warranty is over, it's over for freebies. Which why so many of us have advised going to another dealer.... you may have better luck. But if you chose to stick with the one you have & pester them until they give in, that's your choice. Of course, you may be risking how you're treated for the next repair... humans generally don't take kindly to being pushed in a corner.... hopefully they won't get an attitude about it.
I have answered every question I've been asked. You may not get the answer you want to hear, but you DID get answered!
The point is they only thing an auto tech would do is check for power to the unit at the various points.... not check inside the unit. It's not their job. No amount of asking will get them to do it.... they just can't... They are "mechanics" not "electricians".... most don't open up the computers in the car either... the whole box, (whether it's the ECU or whatever,) would be replaced if the tests show it's not doing it's job. By tests I mean checking for power to the areas that have an issue. (which isn't what's going on with your car).
