My armrest would squeel and squeak whenever I lifted it, and when trying to get something from the upper shelf, it would pop up too. So today, while installing my Sirius radio, I also unscrewed the two screws at the bottom of the hinge connecting the armrest to the storage console. I took some white lithium grease (didnt have and WD40 for some reason ) and sprayed it into the hinge assembly. screwed it back together and voila! It no longer squeaked and the upper shelf stays put! I guess the hinge is just a little tight and needed some grease. Hope this helps.
