Just last week a Jiffy Lube put gear oil in a Honda MT.... they customer brought it to the dealer because it would hardly shift.
If caught early just changing out the fluid to the right stuff will cure it. If left too long it needs to be rebuilt. Guess who had to rebuild it!!
I agree with Stevel, get a relationship going with your tech where ever you go. It makes a huge difference.
There's no real money to be made in simply doing fluid changes so any place set up for that it is going to likely try to upsale service. KNOW YOUR CAR & what's going on with it. If it ain't broke, don't agree to repairs. Refer to your owner's manual for the timing of maint.
I would love to be a secret shopper for auto repairs....as long as someone else provided the car! BAR sends in people to shops that have had complaints undercover. The majority of complaints are for independent shops, not dealers. Dealers have them too though. Dateline did a report a few years ago that said you only have a 25% chance of getting the repair done right the first time. Going up to a 50/50 chance at a dealer. It's so sad. It's no better for appliance repair.
