depending on driving environment/conditions

Well put..

So I asked the "very young" sales guy at lunch today on a camry testdrive about the "sludging" thing... We had a pretty good discussion about it.. His take on it was that apparantly, Toyota mentioned or stated 5k intervals (I think my wife's van manual / schedule states 5k) for oil changes. He mentioned it said if you must go to 7500 miles, it was ok, depending on driving environment/conditions. I dunno.. but to me, 3k is just plain 3k and proper whether it's a 1985 buick or an 2007 toyota or honda.

I'm a harley guy.. (boo now) banana.gif My bike gets new oil every season whether she likes it or not at 2500 (mobil 1 v-twin in the engine at dang near $8/quart and Redline Shockproof Heavy in the tranny, equally expensive, and primary fluid).. It's cheap compared to a new $5k engine or $2500 gearbox. The new manual says 5k on harleys now.. The new RUB's follow that.. Those that know harleys keep it at 2500.

I wouldn't be waiting to 5k on a camry or a honda.. I'm just one of those that believes fresh oil and a filter is pretty dang cheap compared to a worn engine before it's time. My trooper has always told me first when it's time, and I've always listened to those valve adjusters knocking on the door. So I might use the sludging thing in the negotiating, but to me.. it's a non-issue because I'll keep some serious fresh oil in the crank. thumbsup.gif
