"cars are expensive."

Well, the simple issue here is that the Toyota engines that had the sludge problem are not used in the current generation Camry.Simple.They don't use them anymore.Anyone trying to scare anyone else away from a new Toyota by bringing up the old sludge issue simply isn't relating the reality of the situation. And, I don't know for sure about every model year of the Scion tC, but the current model uses the same 2.4-liter 2AZ-FE engine used in the current Camry -- which isn't one of the engines that had the sludge problem. As far as oil quality goes, "cars are expensive." I just can't even begin to comprehend why anyone would want to skimp on the quality of the oil they put into their new cars, or to "extend the oil change intervals" without respect to the kind of driving they do -- if you drive a lot of "in town" miles, you should change the oil more often, to get the impurities out that are more likely to build up with short-trip driving.I do a lot of in-town driving, so I've been using Mobil 1 at 3,000 mile intervals for over a decade. "Wasteful," perhaps, and more expensive than doing fewer changes with dino oil, but it sure seems to be "cheap insurance" to me!
