Our decision to add an Accord (rather than a second Civic) when our Civic was getting up in miles (150K) was the plan to use the Accord as our interstate cruiser. We tend to take 2-3 trips per year where we drive 3,000 or so miles per trip. The Civic is okay for distance (35+ mpg at 70mph with the air conditioner on), but we wanted something more comfortable for the long distance runs. The lumbar support and wider stance of the Accord will give that.
On the other side, the Civic is an inexpensive to operate, fun car to drive around the city. Tight turning circle, 30+ mpg in the city, small enough to get in tight spots make it a great little car for day-to-day running.
So get the Civic now and if you ever want a second car, match the Accord along side.
