that's what i figured so i employed this technique this weekend.I used half a tank and "estimated it" at 22 mpg. then i drove about 44 miles and filled up again. based on how many gallons went in (1.7) I calculate that I got about 25 mpg all CITY with hard driving! Wow! that is supposed to be the combined, that is way over the city rating of 22, but yet it seems i made no mistake in that calculation...i had topped it off anyway because i was hitting the highway for a 250 mile trip and i wanted to see highway miles. I got to the half tank mark again and "estimated", i assumed the half mark is about 8.5 gallons and if it is so I had about 29-point-something mpg highway. I'm sure that can be improved dramatically if I would have gone 65, but I went 80 during many stretches and I heard the added drag is exponential at higher speeds.NOTE: my father pointed out that the tires can actually inflate to 44 psi as their rating, and told me I should overinflate my tires by about 2 psi (doing about 34 instead of 32) because it would impriove mileage and handling (but that i shouldn't go further than that over the rating for the car of 32). Anyone know any troubles you may have by overinflating by 2 psi? it sounds solid, with 32 the tires naturally look a little low to me, with the rims coming down a bit...and plus you lose some over time so according to him people who inflate JUST to the recommended amount spend 90 percent of their time underinflated...
