Start the car, 30 seconds to 2 minute warmup. Reverse, neutral, let it roll down a hill for .1 miles, come to a stop. Make a left, accel easy to moderate up to 30MPH...total .2 miles after the stop, then come to another stop (flat). Accel to 20, neutral, .1 miles or so and another stop (flat). Then gentle accel, stick it in 3rd and leave it there, engine brake down a hill for maybe about .2 mile, stop (steep downhill, sign at the bottom). Accel easy-moderate to 35, come to a light within .2 miles (very gentle downslope). Wait for right turn (generally on red with 1-2 cars in front of me). Accel moderate up to 35, come to a light within .2 miles and it's generally red (gentle downslope). Accel lightly up to 20, another light within .15 miles, generally red (flat). After this, accel moderate to 40, 4th gear engine brake, downhill for about .4 miles, light generally red (moderate to steep downhill). Let it roll downhill very very light accel in 1st to about 5MPH (a light again in probably 100 feet...stupid)...catch the green, moderate accel up to 45-50, generally pass by two green lights (sometimes red of course...slight downhill). That's about ~.6-.7 miles before I come to a right turn, generally red with ~2-4 cars in front of me. Turn, easy-moderate accel to 40, red light within .25 miles (flat). Easy-mod accel again, another .15 miles, red (flat). Then easy-moderate accel for .1 miles (flat), left turn/light (generally red), and I'm in the parking lot looking for a space, go straight to the back so no searching.
Total 2.7 miles (adds up, and that's the real mileage, so I think everything is about right)
I never shift above 2500RPM on this trip. Gentle or easy accel means under 2000, light accel means ~1750, easy-moderate means about 2250-2500, moderate means 2500 with more throttle (time between shift is very short, but never over 2500RPM).
This is my daily grind each way (while I'm in school, which I'm not) - generally 21.5-23MPG.
