Edit: See below for the OP. Just wanted to announce that the Accord was the first model with 500 owners signed up, and then the first with 600, and will soon be the first with 700. The current total is 689. Each time one of these milestones is reached I thank driveaccord.net on the home page, with a link to this forum.
In late 2005 I started conducting my own reliability research. I'm reporting absolute stats like "times in the shop" that will make the differences between cars much clearer. Relative ratings obscure too much--how large is the difference between "better than average" and "worse than average"? Im updating results four times a year, so there will be information on new models sooner.
For all model years more participants would be very helpful. I'm especially looking forward to providing quick results for the new 2008, since in recent years some Hondas have had cleaner launches than others.
Participants simply report repairs the month after they occur on a one-page survey. When there are no repairs, they simply report an approximate odometer reading four times a year, at the end of each quarter.
To encourage participation, panel members will receive full access to the results free of charge.
