It would help too if the Queen sold her Rolls Royces that get about the same MPG as the Hummer, but you know what? Nobody is making fun of her. I'm as big a fan of diesel as the next guy, and I'm waiting for when I can actually buy one that will go beyond 100K without replacing turbos, 20 different sensors, gaskets, ECU's, and then risk having them catch on fire (all VW ailments). But in the meantime I am actually doing what I can in terms of fuel economy by "taking risks:" running 40PSI, driving below the speed limit, being a rebel by illegally "freewheeling," etc. For a person who is soooo vocal about the bad MPG you are getting with your Accord, you sure ain't doin JACK about it...far as I'm concerned, that's not better than Arnold driving his Hummer around. It's almost like you WANT to get bad MPG just so you can bash on Accords and gasoline engines. Here's a fact for you. Before I pulled my head out of my ass and started listening to real arguments on how to conserve gas, I got 22MPG on the average in my Accord, so I have been in your shoes. After we took the Camry to Canada and that little piece of crap 180K mile engine with a slushbox got 33MPG going over the Rockies with 900lbs inside and I couldn't even get 28MPG sitting by myself driving on a flat freeway, I realized I had to do something. Then I started listening to Wayne and basically since then my low has been 24MPG ONCE, the next low is 26.5MPG, and I have been at 30MPG for the past 1500 miles. What have YOU done with your Accord to conserve gas, when you complain about the USA taking up so much gas?Here's the bottom line. VW sold diesel cars very recently for many years. It was Mercedes before them. None of them sell very well. All of them exhibit extensive problems - there was a member on this board who jumped ship on an 06 VW Jetta TDI because of all the problems. Diesel cars are not being produced by manufacturers not only because of their failure to meet emissions standards like all other cars on the road, but also because nobody buys them!You can believe what you want but IMO it is absolutely childish and biased to believe that diesel is being "banned" from the US because someone paid them to do it, especially if there isn't even one inkling of proof. In fact, the proof in the pudding (above) says the statement is actually backwards! People didn't buy diesels because they smoked and clattered and didn't meet emissions, now they are being required to clean them up and stop their smoking and people are calling BS when the regulations are actually going to help promote diesel sales once the automakers get their act together and pass them! Imagine that, a law that makes diesels harder to produce, but in the end more attractive, and then people are pulling BS on it People for YEARS pounded on the issue of SUV and big trucks not being required to meet the same standards as other cars, in terms of fuel economy, emissions, bumper regulations, etc. Now they are subjected to the same standards (ie. Dodge Ram Cummins TurboDiesel HO is not allowed to be sold in 5 states because it doesn't pass emissions). And yet, YET when it comes to diesels, they don't meet emissions then it's a SCAM! Oho imagine that! Those liberals...constantly promoting this while protesting that when the underlying principle is the SAME Originally you argued in another thread that we don't have emissions standards that are strict enough because we refuse to sign clean air agreements. We proved you wrong with tons of data. Then you change your POV to "you guys aren't letting diesels be produced because oil companies say so." This argument is SEVERELY flawed. First of all, it is a complete reversal of your previous stance: diesels cannot be produced because they do not pass emissions. So first, we do not regulate emissions enough, but then now we regulate them too much...I see. Second, diesel fuel can be produced more easily, more cheaply than gasoline, yet their prices are similar if not higher. Hmm let me think, if I am an oil company I think I would advocate every friggin car on the road should be a diesel.I've tried as hard as I can to restrain myself but you need to stop attacking the USA, period. Everyone in Europe must think they are so far above us when they are NOT.
