MP3 Connection for '07 Accord: Concerned About Shorting Radio
Permalink

As you may have seen with the previous message, I had issues with my head unit after installing a Blitzsafe AUX adapter. After consulting with Blitzsafe, we concluded that a slightly loose connection in the hardwired Y-adapter plug caused the radio to short circuit, causing my issues with XM radio that have continued even after taking out the Blitzsafe unit,

I am working on getting the head unit replaced but I don't know if I want to put in another 3rd party adapter into my car (if the same thing happens again I know I'll have to pay out of pocket for the head unit). From the lack of replies earlier (and the lack of complaints anywhere), it is likely that what happened to me is very rare but if I re-install this thing, I'm afraid of taking an expensive gamble.

Because I love my MP3 music, I'm looking at my options. One retailer said that the lack of "data bus" signals from the Blitzsafe was a possible culprit, which allowed the AUX input and the XM to run simultaneously. I know Soundgate now makes an AUX input that has this capability but don't know which iPod connectors (if any) do.

At this point I'm exploring buying an iPod (I currently have an old Dell DJ). However, the reason to do that would be to get Honda's Music Link. It sounds like Music Link has a lot of shortcomings but I'm afraid to use anything else due to warranty issues.

What are your thoughts? Has anyone with XM and one of these iPod connectors (namely the non-OEM ones) had issues with their XM?
