It feels like this has been answered several times.... the dealer's job is to make sure the failure is IN the unit, not the car...so they ONLY check the stuff making it work from the car's end....the commectors. The unit has a sticker seal & if that's broken or messed with it's totally unreturnable! That's the same as with ANY electrionic equiptment. They all have the same rules whether it's a TV or a radio....if the seal is broken whatever is wrong is automatically your fault, warranty of not.

So the questions about diagnostic would apply to the manufacturer, not the dealer. They are not ALLOWED to open up the unit. If they do, they broke the seal & no one would take it back. ALL faulty units are supposed to be send back to Honda, who will send it to the engineers to find out what went wrong in an effort to make sure others don't have the same problem.

If you're waiting for your dealer to say they will make more of diagnosis than making sure it's got continuity, it's NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. Their hands are tied. They can NOT do it. They wouldn't have the know how or the tools for that plus it would mean trouble for them if they tried.

You wouldn't expect a plumber to have an electrician's knowledge, right? Well, it's that simple. An auto technician should know cars, not all the electronic stuff in it.

I hope this explains it for you.
