Both the 4 cylinder K24A8 and the 6 cylinder J30A5 are wonderful motors. The 4 cylinder will always get better fuel mileage except in rare instances of heavy loads and higher altitudes where they would probably pull even.Anyway, the 4 cylinder K24A8 is much more capable than most other motors its size. You dont need the V6, however if you drive one and like the idea of driving a family sedan capable of pulling down exceptional fuel mileage (see above) and be capable of running a 15 second flat ¼ mile at more than 95Mph, go with the 6 cylinder J30A5.I love my 4 cylinder K24A8 5-speed manual. For my 90 mile round trip commute it averages just under 32Mpg either sitting in traffic or cruising @ 3000Rpm.Now when I jump into my wifes 6 cylinder J30A5 automatic, well its hard to believe how far technology has come in the family sedan (and coupe!). That drive-train is magic in an Accord. The 6 cylinder J30A5 will cost more at the front-end and it will burn more fuel. Its also louder thanks to the tires and the wheel / tire combination is venerable to curb & pothole damage due to the lower profile tires (50 series vs. 60 series on the 4 cylinder K24A8). Higher maintenance also goes along with the 6 cylinder due to the low profile tires and the engine timing belt that needs to be changed @ 105,000 miles.
