If I did math right, thats about 18mpg for 300miles@16.5gal. The stated city mpg is 19 for VCM AT V6 and non VCM V6 coupes 17mpg. so supposedly should get 2+ in city with VCM.I guess it depends on definition of "city" driving but if its like mine with having to stop/start every few blocks or so I find it hard to see VCM can kick in much. As I understand from start it always all 6 cylinders and only on steady state will it reduce/cutt out some(4/3).When you drive in city does the ECO light come on much, that would give some idea how much its used ?Let the car break-in few k miles(at least 3-5k) before judging to much mpg.
