Hi Steve. This diesel 'unreliability' thing is puzzling to me?? Over here diesel engines are reknowned for being far MORE reliable than it's equivilent petrol engine?
They have no ignition system at all to go wrong, higher compresion ratio's (my ZX is around 20-1 I think) so they rev much more slowly and are far more sturdily built to take the high compressions and extra heat.. The are also used in a lot of our trains, passenger ferries, and even some ocean going liners.. ??
I believe the diesel engine providing some of the power in Basingstoke hospital has been running since the 1930's!!!
It's not unusual for diesels here to exceed 500,000 miles on their original engines..
