Installs done at BB or CC vary greatly. I have seen installers from both companies that are great at what they do, and I have seen some pretty crappy installers from both. Same goes for small shops. Usually the 'bad' installers at the retailers are just inexperienced, whereas the 'bad' installers at a small shop is usually 'bad' cuz they are hacks and cut corners, cuz they usually get paid based on how much work they do instead of by the hour.
No matter where you go, talk to some of the installers, ask some questions. Get a feel for their knowledge. Ask them how long they have been doing it. Ask what MECP means? (Mobile Electronics Certification Program btw...) I am an installer, and I have been doing it for about 10 years (6 professionally). I don't mind customers asking some questions, just don't come off like you are interviewing them. No one likes to be drilled! lol
