So honestly I think the problem isn't worth $300 to repair

I messed up my laptop by corrupting the contents of the security EEPROM. IBM told me I would have to get a new system board and it would cost $900 + labor. I researched the problem and built an EEPROM writer and reflashed my security EEPROM and my laptop works fine. Total cost for parts was less than $30 and I didn't have to replace a thing in my laptop. So honestly I think the problem isn't worth $300 to repair. But they designed it and they don't give out any detailed specs on how to service it. They just change out the whole component and send it back to the factory where they refurb it. Hey, that's their business model. I did say that dealers can't do anything more than change modules. They're not trained nor authorized to repair down to such a low level.
