The problem isn't the SCREEN thing it's in the BOX part......

I'm not making light of the problem....it sucks to have ANY part go out after warranty!!

But to refuse to ever buy a product again because of a part they didn't make & apparently have a fix for...seems a bit extreme! The newer ones aren't doing it because the manufacturer got their act together. Honda will cover them in the warranty period. Many times it's been done after the warranty period ends, depending on the dealer & the mileage.

It's not all one unit... it's pieces...

Instructions for removal:

SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations and the precautions and procedures before performing repairs or service.

NOTE:

Put on gloves to protect your hands.

Take care not to scratch the dashboard and related parts.

Lay a workshop towel under the parts when working on them to protect the face panel from scratches or other damage.

Do not work in a dusty or dirty place.

Discharge static electricity from your body before and during the work.

Do not touch the circuit board with your bare hands.

Do not work with dirty hands.

Be careful not to fold the flat plate cable.

Do not touch the terminal connector of the flat plate cable with your bare hands. (If you have touched it, wipe it off thoroughly.)

Make sure you have the anti-theft codes for the radio and navigation system, then write down the frequencies for the radio's preset buttons.

Remove the upper panel.

Remove the center pocket.

Remove the screws and bolts, disconnect the audio-HVAC display module connectors (A) and the antenna lead (B), then remove the audio-HVAC display module (C).

Install the audio-HVAC display module and note these items:

Make sure the disconnected connectors plugged in properly, and the antenna lead is connected properly.

Enter the anti-theft code for the radio, then enter the customer's radio station presets.

The problem isn't the SCREEN thing it's in the BOX part...... as much as I've teased about "the bulb"...it really isn't. There's a flaw in the guts of it that's telling not to display. That's why they've been replacing the whole thing.

Now, this doesn't mean this one that has failed so late into ownership isn't the "bulb"...so maybe an actual diagnosis would be required.

If it were my car, I'd be paying the 300 for a remanned one & be on my way with a working unit.

I AM sorry if anyone has taken offense to being light hearted about this. I thought the question had been answered from the beginning. Either try another dealer & see they'll cover it, pay for a new unit, pay for a remanned unit..... the rest is just opinions.... which boils down to we all agree that it is bad that a part went out after the warranty ended & we all agree that we'd like to see higher quality stuff.
