Oil filters, oem

Thanks Benji, does anyone else have an opionion on this?? both filters and oil type?

I own a 2005 honda accord ex v6 with 29,000 miles. I bought this car from a friend. He had his oil changed about every 5000 miles at the honda dealership. They used the oem filter and honda bulk oil.

I spoke to several car people and it was recommended that unless I wanted to buy honda filters and oil, that a real good oil is the Motorcraft 5w20 synthetic blend and WIX oil and wix air filters. I checked at O'Reilly's auto parts and the oil filter runs about $6.30. He said that filter is excellent and has the check valve that the oem honda filter has. He also said the motorcraft is very good oil. Someone else on this board said that it only costs about $1.25 or so, but they charge about $2.50 quart and their prices seem reasonable on other items.

Anyway can anyone steer me in the right direction. If i should use the honda oem oil and filters i will, jsut so many choices and so many opionions out there. I want to keep this car to around 125,000 miles so I want to do the right thing. If motorcraft is not the right choice for a honda (i believe it is actually made for fords), then please suggest a brand.

Lastly, I noticed that honda sells a special tool to remove the oil filter. I have several different sized oil filter wrenches, will one of these work or is it necessary to purchase this $20 honda part???

Thanks -----
