Tranny? What tranny? My tranny has no issues at all dunno.gif I don't see any major issues with the 7th gen tranny on this board either. I only recall 2 in recent memory that required repair/replacement, and yours would be one of them...there was a 03 EX V6 on here with over 100K orig tranny so it does seem like a small problem to me dunno.gif Consider they sell 400K Accords a year, over 4 years, that's 1.6 million cars. We have 4000 members, if half drive 7th gens then 1% failure would rate would be 20 cars. We haven't even seen that many. And take into consideration this is a forum! People come here just to find answers to problems and vent about their misfortunes!

You're right it was on the 10best engines list for a long time. They also don't rate engines based on reliability or durability AFAIK. If you ask people on this board, I'm sure many of them would rate their respective 4 or 6 cylinders as awesome engines too. I know I place my F23 leagues above the Toyota 4 cyls (both old and new). I'm also pretty sure that if you ask the guy on OdyClub who has 360K on his 02 Ody with original engine and FOURTH transmission, he'd probably say his J35 is among the best he's owned.

05 and 06 only...I'm pretty sure succinct's Maxima was an 03, and he also stated that there were widespread problems on the forum he was on, and the thread with the negativity about "you know you're a 5th gen owner if..." only refers to 00-03 Max's, not 04+, not 05 and not 06.

And how long has Honda had tranny issues? Honda has almost always had auto tranny issues...caveat emptor! In the 3rd gen they had a history of failing, they fixed it in the 4th and 5th gen but they had rough shifting. After they fixed that in the 6th gen it was not very durable. Now in the 7th gen they seem to have gotten a good balance.

Most problems are supplier issues? I don't know, I doubt oil consumption could be played off on a supplier issue, neither could a tranny with interior passages that are easily blocked by particles.

Toyota did not issue a recall because if you maintain the engine like you're supposed to, it is problem free. We just sold our 97 Camry with 188K and was still running pretty good for the mileage. It started burning oil after my dad ran one fill of full synthetic M1 in it - that's a potential problem with any type of car with this kind of mileage. They also did extend the warranty to a 7/100 warranty, JUST like Honda did.

Every manufacturer has their issues, you're right. But unlike Nissan, Honda doesn't consider excessive oil consumption or bad syncros at 800 miles(!!) "normal" and stands behind their work, as evidenced by all the extended warranties on head units, transmissions, jet kit recalls, etc.
