My home computer is a HT 3.06 P4 with a gig of ram, bought it back in Spring 03 and it has been beaten since but still chugs along. It runs SuperPi 2M just under 3 minutes. My laptop with a Core Duo T2500 and a gig of ram runs it at 1:01.
For the future I just bought a beautiful Antec p180 case and 2 gigs of OCZ 1066 DDR2 for $280 total. I am now looking at a MSI Diamond line 680I motherboard (Very rare but give it a month) and a E6600. I think that might get down near 30 seconds without overclocking. Not sure though as I have not bought everything yet let alone built it. I think I am going to start with one 8800GTX, and later go to two, as well as 3 SATA drive with 500gigs each (2 drives run in Raid 0). I think for power an Antec with 600+ watts. If anyone has under taken a 680i motherboard project I would be interested in hearing results. I mainly play BF2, but think I might get into BF2142. I have been known to fly MSFS X from time to time as well. I would be interested in cranking up all the settings and watch the 8800GTX do wonderful things on FS X. I have a 24 inch LCD Acer monitor right now and even in low settings it's stunning. Also right now all games are played off of my laptop (To my 24 inch screen) because it has a 256meg Nvidia 7900GS, and the aforementioned T2500 and gig of ram. The reason for the new build is the laptop still can't run BF2 at highest settings and I want to see people breath their last breath...
