6th gear at 40mph...engine

What gets me is being in 6th gear at 40mph...engine feels slightly sluggish at the low of a speed in 6th.
And from 1st to 3rd all within 2mph...seems kinda silly...but I agree that it probably does improve MPG.
I'll have to try it on my next tank (4th full tank).
