James, I found your response to my post a little on the glib and condescending side. I don't really take offense to it, because I think I know what you were trying to say. You just came across poorly. Phrases like "quite funny", our "preoccupation", and "bad joke" will only be interpreted as rude by many if not most readers.

I was just pointing out a trend on my particular vehicle, not trying to debate the pros, cons, and various options available worldwide. What works for you and others in the UK isn't necessarily what we want, need, or even have reasonably available over here. I do not intend to get into a geo-political debate about alternative fuel options, energy policy, the environment, and international marketing.

The fact is, James, that diesels are NOT readily available over here in mass quantities and with the kinds of vehicles we want or need. If I could get an Accord in a diesel at 45 mpg and still get decent power and comfort, then I would get it. As it is, I'm quite happy with the V6 and think 30 mpg out of it is pretty darn reasonable under the circumstances.

As for 3 psi over-pressure, that's hardly enough to make it unsafe but it is enough to make a slight difference in FE. I don't just do things like that without doing some research, and I have.

In addition, I never said anything about putting the car in neutral to coast to stops, etc. I do not, in fact, do that.

And just because I have access to buying a 1.4L Civic doesn't mean I want or need one. I could buy a bicycle or motor scooter too if it were that important, but those wouldn't fit my needs at this time.

I bought the V6 because I liked the way it felt and drove, and I thought it had decent performance characteristics. I know the power is there when I want or need it. What's the problem trying to maximize my fuel economy in the process? I guess I don't see what's "funny" or a "bad joke". dunno.gif
