New addition to the family, 2001 Acura CL
Permalink

My sons 1999 Neon has been getting a little old in the tooth with 123,000 miles. Since hes been doing very well in school at Texas A&M, a scholar-athlete and has had some recent bad luck on the ice, ACL surgery, I thought a little better car was in order.

We started looking for manual sixth generation EX Accords with side airbags or 2002 2005 Civic EX manuals with side airbags. Slim pickens around here; and the ones that I find are all well above $10,000, some of the Civic in the $13-15K range. So I just happen to check out the inventory of a dealer that has a 2001 TL for the same price or LESS! So I start looking around and we find this 2001 CL, 86,000 miles, one owner, good paint, clean interior never smoked in garage kept. I snapped it up last week for much less than any Accord or Civic and ran it over to my local Honda dealer for service:

1) Oil change
2) Transmission fluid change (recall performed and under warranty till 109K miles or another year)
3) Brake fluid flush
4) Radiator coolant change
5) Chassis inspection stuff

I changed the air filter and cabin air filter, they wanted another $120 for that! I also purchased two new Fuzion HRi
205/60HR16 from Firestone (At TireRack prices). The car has two of these tires @ 8/32 & 9/32 and two others @ 2/32 & 3/32. The tires seem pretty good if you run the tire pressure up around 37Psi. They are a little noisy but the CL is so quite you really dont hear them at all. I also got it tinted. We surprised him with it last week. Its nice to see your grown kids smile! Heres a couple of pics next to my wifes Accord.
