Okay, I brought up an old thread yesterday about the OP in that thread experiencing a whine through the power steering column. Well after reading that thread I got concerned it was more serious than just an annoying noise, so I brought my car in to the dealership yesterday. They kept it overnight so they could replicate the noise (only happens when the engine is cold). Today I got a call from the dealership at noon telling me my car was ready. Turns out it was a defective O-ring on the power steering pump inlet joint letting air into the pump. It was a simple fix, and the only part necessary was an O-ring. The service advisor said there is a TSB for this problem, and they've been seeing a lot of 2003 - 2007 Accords coming in for this problem. Mostly the new models, from 06-07.
Well the good thing is, it was a minor repair. I'm really hoping this is the last extended service visit I need to make. I bought a Honda so I wouldn't have to deal with this crap of going and taking extended time off from work, going through the hassle of a rental car, and being without my own car. What really makes me nervous, is my service advisor said the power steering pump in the V6 Accords seems to be poorly designed. They originally thought I needed a new system because they have been replacing so many of them (there was a national backorder at one point). She even told me the 08's have it worse, with a complete loss of power steering. Not good Honda!
Well, just a heads up for you V6 Accord owners. If you're hearing a moan/whine noise in the morning when the car is cold and you turn the steering wheel, bring it in for service. Unless you're technically proficient enough to replace the O-ring on your own.
