Synthetic oil change intervals
Permalink

I have a question about when you should change synthetic oil. But before I ask let me give you some background information. I recently bought a 2003 Accord four cylinder sedan. The previous owner was using synthetic oil so I figure I will do the same. I've always used conventional in my cars; basically just because its cheaper, I've never had any problems, I do not drive spiritedly or aggressively.

Okay, so to the question. How often do you change synthetic oil? From my research I've seen all types of claims, but the most common claim seems to be around 5,000-6,000 miles. So I am thinking every 6,000 or six months. Does this sound reasonable?

By the way, I had the dealer put synthetic in it for the first oil change I got and the sticker they put on says to change it again in 3,000 miles dunno.gif I'm not sure if this is simply a tactic to see if I will spend money changing the oil ever 3k, if it really is advised to do so, mistake, or if someone just didn't know any better.
