Increasing V6 fuel economy
Permalink

I know there are a number of posts related to gas mileage. I just wanted to throw another one in the mix as it relates to my continually improving fuel economy.

My last three tanks have been 27.9, 28.8, 29.9, 29.2, and now 30.1 mpg respectively. That's a pretty nice trend, especially considering gas prices. My driving style continues to be light-moderate speeds/acceleration with 90% highway miles. My fill-ups are always 87 octane at high-volume stations. I run the a/c probably half the time (on Auto) depending on the weather.

I would attribute it to a few things, including:

* Summer blend fuels
* New air filter about a month ago
* Keeping tires over-inflated by about 3 psi
* Continuous careful timing of stop and go at lights
* Break-in of the engine
* (Dare I say it) synthetic oil?

Hey, I'll take what I can get, but who says the V6 has to be a gas hog?
