stock OEM wipersApril 3, 2008 Not really a mod...just a swap.
Nothing was wrong with my stock OEM wipers. They just weren't flat and modern like the wipers of the Acura TSX and many other Honda/Acura cars. Some advantages to have them include: -Apparently a "longer life" span -Better swipe because of the uniformed pressure applied across the windshield -More aerodynamic compared to the traditional style stock blades -They are genuine Honda parts and not aftermarkets like Valeo and Bosch -THEY LOOK GREAT! |

key design compared to the stub keyApril 3, 2008 think it's worth it.
I've gotten sooo many comments about it, I love it. Everyone is amazed to find out that it for a Honda. I prefer this key design compared to the stub key that came with the car. It's more modern. |

Yup, I drilled 3/4" holes through the cargo tray right above the 4 anchors on the floor and looped the nets through them and around the anchors. They really work together! |

sometimes being a nitpicker pays offApril 2, 2008 when i was shopping for my 08 accord i found 2 dealers had my car. i went to the first one because the guy was cool last time i dealt with him.
anyways they only had 1 black/black ex sedan and when i went inside it... i just had this feeling the car wasnt for me. i guess when i saw 50 miles on it, there had to be quite a few test drives on the car. the engine sounded a bit too lound, especially compared to the one i ended up buying. as bad as i felt, the guy wouldnt accept me not wanting that specific car, but to hope he could find me another one. i just knew deep down inside the car could give me problems. He said no, so i walked (and bought it elsewhere). months pass and i meet my friend when he tells me that the person who bought it kept bringing it in because of constant small problems. i feel bad for who bought it, but sometimes im glad i can nitpick like that and pay off. |

Sound SystemApril 2, 2008 Has anyone here changed the seven speaker 270 watt system that comes with the 08 accord coupe ex-l v6 ? I haven't even had a chance to hear what the factory installed system sounds like,but I always end up upgrading my stereo system. I am going to be buying the 08 accord coupe ex-l v6 next week and this being my first Honda, Ive heard stories of hearing rattling noises after changing anything thats honda factory installed... so two questions ;
1- how do you all like the factory sound system ? 2- anyone here change the speakers, sub and amp? it seems like changing the head unit is way too complicated (not to mention expensive) and not worth doing.... Thanks ! |

J-pipe, Koni Shocks, K&N TyphoonApril 2, 2008 Hey guys, I am going to be trading my car in for an 08 WRX in a few months and wanted to start getting rid of some stuff I have laying around. These parts came off of my 06 6mt Accord Coupe and are all very lightly used. Note that these prices include shipping and handling. Also, if a price seems wrong to you, feel free to point it out. I generally price things to move as much as I can just because I hate selling stuff. I will take personal checks, cashiers checks or money orders, but if you want to use a personal check I would like to cash it first so I don't get screwed out of parts here. I've sold a couple things on here before, my neuspeed short shift kit and a set of neuspeed race springs. The first thing is the J-pipe which is something that I recently got, installed, and took back off due to the fact that I decided I wasn't going to keep the car much longer. The pipe was on the car for about 200-300 miles. It is the J-pipe made by Richie over at V6performance.net. Here is the thread: http://v6performance.net/forums/showthread.php?t=99114 Anyway, I got this pipe for a bit over 350, I forget the exact number, it is in the thread, and will let it go for $200. Mine does not include a test-pipe. Fitment is good, and it is a high quality piece. The second thing I am getting rid of is a set of Koni SP3 Yellow shock absorbers. These are the yellows with 5 height adjustment perches instead of just the three perches on the standard yellows. Three of the shocks are in good condition, but the front passenger side shock was slightly damaged and the aligning tab used for lining the shock up for mounting has popped off, though this isn't necessary for them to function as it does not actually support any weight. I will sell the set of 4 for $285. The third item that I am selling is a cold air intake / short ram intake made by K&N called the Typhoon. It is in good condition and has been on the car for about 5k I'd guess. I'll sell this item for $150. This item is still installed on my car, but I will remove it if someone wants to buy it. edit: edited pricing __________________ I suffer from a condition characterized by extremely long posts, sorry... |

Very Interesting Engine Break-In InformationApril 2, 2008 Well I actually came on this information by accident while reading up about my favorite car, the C6 Vette. I'll copy and paste the interesting stuff:
New Car Break-in When a car is new all the parts in the engine and drive train (primarily the transmission and rear end) fit very tightly together. As the car is driven these parts start to wear against each other. The goal of new car break-in is to minimize wear that can damage the parts. Not only can this prolong the life of your car but it can improve the performance of it as well (like better power and gas mileage). The Owners Manual provided by GM with my Corvette said only to drive the car under 55 MPH for the first 500 miles and to vary the speed. This write-up expands upon that including how to drive the car when the engine is cold, how to drive it in general and what kinds of maintenance to perform. Cold Starts The most detrimental time for your new car is when the engine is cold. You want to minimize the time it takes your engine to get to normal operating temperature and be easy on the engine until it is up to temperature. The following is recommended: * Avoid cold starts - plan your driving such that you can start your car and go for a moderately long drive. Try to avoid short trips. * Drive the car immediately - idling the engine causes uneven engine wear. Get yourself ready to leave (buckle up your seat belt, adjust the seat, etc.) before turning on the engine. When you turn on the engine put it in gear and leave immediately. * Accelerate moderately - never use more than 1/4 throttle while the engine is cold. * Excessive throttle can cause engine glazing and uneven wear. * Shift gears at under 2500 RPM - dont over-rev the engine. Driving During the first 500-1000 miles your engine and drive train parts are establishing a fit that they will have the rest of their lives. Try to follow the following procedure for the first 1000 miles or so. If your car uses synthetic oil you may want to extend this even longer because synthetic oil slows engine wear. * Keep your speed under 55 MPH for the first 500 miles. * Dont accelerate overly hard. * Avoid full throttle starts from a dead stop at all costs - there will be time for that later. * Continuously vary your speed - its tough on you and the people following you but try to change speeds constantly. The worst thing you can do is use your cruise control. * Drive on slow-speed trips as well as moderate-speed trips - so you can use as many gears as possible. After 500 miles, add high-speed trips, too. * Do not exceed about 3500 RPM. Make your shifts smooth and deliberate - not only are you breaking-in your engine, you are breaking-in your transmission and rear end. * Never lug your engine - if you have a manual transmission, try to keep the transmission in a moderate RPM range. * Try to drive during cool temperatures - overheating is the enemy of new engines which tend to run hotter until they are broken-in. * Try not to use your air conditioner - this helps reduce the temperature of your engine by eliminating the load of the compressor. * After a long highway run, let your motor idle for a few minutes - this is an exception to the no-idling rule which lets the engine cool down a little Unfortunately I did not follow any of that advice for my Accord. None of that stuff is mentioned in the Accord owners manual either. I've been using the A/C every day since I bought the car, I have not been able to drive the car in cool temperatures (it's hot in Texas during the summer!), I have definitely exceeded 3500 RPM's, and I have definitely exceeded 55 MPH (try 80 and 90 lol!), and I definitely haven't been worrying about varying my speeds all the time, especially not on the freeway which could be dangerous. I don't lug the engine I don't think, and I haven't done a full throttle start, but I'm a little concerned about all of this stuff. The Accord manual is very vague about engine break-in so I really didn't think much about it. Oh well, I hope I didn't do any damage. With 500 miles on the odometer it's too late now, according to the manual break-in should be done in another 100 miles, so following all of those recommendations probably wouldn't matter anymore. How about you guys, did you follow any of this stuff? |

10 months, 8 days. Very upset.April 2, 2008 That is how long I have owned my 2003 V6 sedan with Navi before a young woman hit me. My beautiful girl is looking very sad tonight. On the way home this evening traffic was pretty bad. Im sure due to the holiday weekend. The lane that I was in came to a complete stop. I had been stopped for probably about 30-45 seconds when BANG, I get rear ended. I never even heard her brakes and it felt like she was doing at least 30-40 mph. It took me a second to realize what had happened. We both pulled to the side. I asked my dad who was in the car with me if he was alright. I got out to check on her, the driver of the other vehicle, and to look at my baby. One look and I almost started to cry. She was driving a Ford F-150. It was also damaged, but not near as much as the back of the Accord. The trunk was mashed up and had huge gaps. The tail lights were all damaged. The bumper, toast. My passenger side rear door was wedged in to the rear quarter panel and was tripping the door sensor which made it fun to get home with the dome light constantly on. Im sure it wont even open. I know the trunk wont open. My hidden hitch looks like it is crooked also. It doesn't look like the metal itself is bent which leaves me to think that it either ripped the bolt mounts up or bent the sub-frame.
She was apologizing to me repeatedly and all I could was shake my head and walk away. I was too upset and didnt want to say the wrong thing to her at the time. She said that she did have insurance which did make me feel a little better. We called an officer out and he filled out an accident report. He did not issue her a ticket in light of the holiday season. Considering she was kind of cute, I felt a little better about that. He did warn her that she needed to slow down and not follow others so closely. Afterwards when I had calmed down a bit, I went to her and she apologized again. I told her that I know that she was trying to apologize earlier and I just shook her off. I know that she didnt mean to do this. I said accidents do happen and cars can be repaired. I then told her to try and enjoy the rest of her holiday and walked back to the car. While continuing home, I noticed that my radar detector was not working. I have a 4-way plug in the lighter plug and the radar detector was plugged in to it. The plug showed to have power, but the detector was not working. When I got home, I discovered that the fuse was blown in the cord. Never thought that would have been affected. I had to remove all my belongings from the trunk through the back seat. Thank goodness for the fold down rear seat. Another worry that I have is that while trying to remove my CDs from the head unit, it did not want to eject them. I could hear the motors inside working, but it was acting like it was jammed. About 10 minutes later, it finally started spitting them out one by one. Hope this doesnt mean it is messed up as well. I will have to check it pretty thoroughly, if this one doesnt get totaled, when I get it back. So, its off to Honda tomorrow to see about turning her in for repair. My only hope is if they do total it, that I can get my aftermarket items back off of it. I dont want to loose my CAI and exhaust. That cost me close to 1K alone. Im including some pics. Sorry for them being so dark. It is night here already. Ill try and get some more in the morning before I take her in. |

Accord 2004 Automatic Transmission OilApril 2, 2008 I am using 6cyl Accord 2004 with automatic transmission. Dealer told me that i must change automatic transmission oil after 80,000KM.
People says that usually changing the automatic transmission oil destroys the gearbox etc and ends up in lots of problems. Friends says better dont touch it unless its dirty. Please help me on that. |

Synthetic oil change intervalsApril 2, 2008 I have a question about when you should change synthetic oil. But before I ask let me give you some background information. I recently bought a 2003 Accord four cylinder sedan. The previous owner was using synthetic oil so I figure I will do the same. I've always used conventional in my cars; basically just because its cheaper, I've never had any problems, I do not drive spiritedly or aggressively.
Okay, so to the question. How often do you change synthetic oil? From my research I've seen all types of claims, but the most common claim seems to be around 5,000-6,000 miles. So I am thinking every 6,000 or six months. Does this sound reasonable? By the way, I had the dealer put synthetic in it for the first oil change I got and the sticker they put on says to change it again in 3,000 miles I'm not sure if this is simply a tactic to see if I will spend money changing the oil ever 3k, if it really is advised to do so, mistake, or if someone just didn't know any better. |

nice surprisesApril 2, 2008 What nifty thing did you learn about your Accord did you find out AFTER you got it??
I didn't know about the trip computer until on the way home. (The Pilot's Nav doesn't have that) I also didn't know that the windows can go down with using the remote. A warm day shopping..... hit the remote & roll down windows, then hit the trunk opener. By the time the trunk is loaded, the car is cooled off. Start, roll up the windows....go! Now we'll see if I remember to NOT open the windows when it starts raining! |

Coupe on 19's and HFP Kit. New pics with tire sizes.April 2, 2008 Alot of people have been PMing me about what size rims and tires I have on my car. I just washed my car today and took a few new pics inside and out. I dont remember the offsets of my rims except that it is staggered with a deeper lip in the rear than in the front. 19x8.5 in the front 19x9.5 in the rear and its a flush fit as seen in the pics in the front and rear. Once its lowered it will look better. I took these pics to compare to after it is lowered in a couple of weeks with the Eibach kit.

Trunk damage?April 2, 2008 Hi
I am considering buying a bike rack (the one you put on the trunk). When I took delivery of my car, the salesman told me to be careful when I close the trunk. He said I have to be gentle with it or I will leave a dent on the trunk lid with my fingers. If my fingers could cause a dent, what about a bike rack? What do you guys think? |

Group buy Digital HID PnP KitsApril 2, 2008 Hey everyone, as everyone can see many of the 08 coupes and i'm sure others on the site are turning to HID kits, well with a bit of research new digital HID kits are surfacing. I found a group price of these on one car forum to $280 shipped, so that would be an estimate of where the price would be if enough people would purchase these.
Apparently the new technology means that the ballasts are about half of what they are now, provide alot more circuitry protection and expand the life of the bulbs. SO....to sum it all up, who all would be interested in possibly getting a group buy going for these? I have already e-mailed one company, but if others know of other reputable companies that offer these digital kits, definitely get a price list and post it up! |

Time for new tiresApril 2, 2008 The wife's 06 is ready for some new tires. I think I've narrowed it down to 3. The General Exclaim UHP, Avon Tech M550 A/S and the Yokohama Avid W4S. The General is a summer tire, other two are AS's. All have about the same wear rating, with the Yoko's the highest at 400. She got about 20k+ out of the Kumho 711's, no bad, but I'd like to get something with a bit better wear this time around as she's not really a spirited driver (at least when I'm in the car ). Oh, and were in socal, so besides the occasional rain, all season tires aren't completely necessary.
So, any experiences with these tires? I've got to say, I'm leaning heavily on the Generals because of price, tread wear (380) and the reviews I've read on tirerack. Any suggestions of other tires are welcome too... |

my long list of warranty work, including dealer tint bubbling! :furious:April 1, 2008 So I have an appointment with the dealer on Tuesday. Here is the list 1. Noisy Hvac blower fan (same noise intensity at any speed as long as it is on) 2. fan speed switch emits a loud plasticky squeak anytime you flip it downward 3. rattle from the passenger side 4. gas cap release tension spring...thing. i have to hit it 10 times to open it 5. dealer installed tint on rear window is BUBBLING. does this mean i use the rear defroster too much??? it happens in perfect rows between the defroster lines. 6. XM antenna is not perfectly sealed to the roof of the car so soapy water gets in it everytime i wash it and then runs down the back for a day or so. getting up there and pressing down on it makes the water spurt out the bottom... |

I called a shop that tinted my windows and they said they charge 40$ an hour. How long did it take most people to do it? do you guys think its worth paying $40 an hour?

Pissed Off a the dealershipApril 1, 2008 so my family and i bought an 07 cr-v ex last month for a very good interest and price. 3.9% on a brand new cr-v! it took us two hours to negotiate the price down to 435/month from 497. finally they said ok, we'll give it to you for 430.14! and it was the GM also that made the deal, so heck yes we took it. last week, they called us saying that they sold the vehicle too cheap and that they going to take it back. so i was pissed cuz it's such an embarassment that people know that we got a cr-v nd now we dont. plus we'd pay for the insurance already. so today we went to return it and did all that talking again and signed the paperwork. so now, i asked if they could write me a statement that says i will not be liable for anything from that time on, they wouldnt do it becuase they dont have time to type it or write it up and kicked me out of the finance office. i was acting nice b/c i dnt like these people anymore! i mean..how can they do that becuase they sold it too cheap and customers can't sell it back because it's too expensive???? (in California, thers no cooling off period). so after that i just went another dealership to buy an odyssey. 548/mnth for 60 mnths. no down/trade. i hope this is a good deal ndnot only b/c im pissed

Honda Accord reliability - how does it compare?April 1, 2008 Edit: See below for the OP. Just wanted to announce that the Accord was the first model with 500 owners signed up, and then the first with 600, and will soon be the first with 700. The current total is 689. Each time one of these milestones is reached I thank driveaccord.net on the home page, with a link to this forum.
In late 2005 I started conducting my own reliability research. I'm reporting absolute stats like "times in the shop" that will make the differences between cars much clearer. Relative ratings obscure too much--how large is the difference between "better than average" and "worse than average"? Im updating results four times a year, so there will be information on new models sooner. For all model years more participants would be very helpful. I'm especially looking forward to providing quick results for the new 2008, since in recent years some Hondas have had cleaner launches than others. Participants simply report repairs the month after they occur on a one-page survey. When there are no repairs, they simply report an approximate odometer reading four times a year, at the end of each quarter. To encourage participation, panel members will receive full access to the results free of charge. Details: Vehicle reliability research Comments, questions, and suggestions welcome. |

Also do you think I would hear a big difference if replace the factory speakers with something around $150 a pair, or is it pointless without adding an amp? I just want to know what would be the most bang for the buck on upgrading the sound system. |
